Drug lessons

Lesson 1:

I was at the store buying about two bags worth of stuff.  When the cashier rang me up the age requirement popped up and I was slapped with shock.  Huh?  What did I buy that needed my age.  Hmmm...no booze, no porn, no dirty music, no R rated movies....hmmm.
Me:  Why did that pop up?
Cashier:  Oh, for the cold medicine.
Me:  Oh, I forgot about all that.
Cashier:  Yeah, people take this (named the specific drug) and mix it with (another specific chemical) and make meth.
Me:  Ummm....ok, then. I guess I'll never understand people.
Cashier:  Well, you just never know what people are going through.
Me:  Well, there are a million other ways to make yourself happy that do not include drugs.
I left pissed off.

Lesson 2:
The kids were discussing what bunnies eat at the dinner table.
Addy:  Bunnies eat carrots, right?
Me:  Yes, they do.
Addy:  I don't like carrots.
Kinsley and Eligh:  I don't like carrots too.
Me:  Ok, you don't have to like them.
Addy:  Bunnies eat grass sometimes, too.
Me: Yes, they do.
Eligh:  I don't like grass.
Me:  You remember that.  You do NOT like nor will like grass, ok?
Eligh:  Ok, mommy.
I ended dinner feeling accomplished.

It's never too early to discuss drugs, right?

The "last" first haircut

The baby days are over for this family of five, for we have already lost what little minds we had.  Today, we experienced and enjoyed our last first haircut in this house.
Before: Notice the different lengths?
"This car is kind of cool and I get to watch a movie."

"Oh, mommy, I don't want to do this."

"But, wait!  There is a pretty unicorn on my ginormous bib." (I wouldn't mind having bibs that large for meal times.  Hmmm...)

"Nope, I will NOT smile."

"Look at those beautiful strands.  Shhhh...don't tell my mommy, but my hair looks so much better than hers."

Another "first" here and gone.  Sigh.

Since I'm changing my mind, a little list

After Christmas I was determined to avoid buying any gifts for Addy's upcoming birthday.  DETERMINED!  The child needed nothing.  She has loads of toys and was not playing with most of them.  When she asked for a toy for her birthday I told her that she didn't play with what she had, so why would she need anything else.

But.....she has started playing with everything (dam nit) and she has been oh so cute lately.  How can I as a mom deny her a little something?  *I'm not a horrible mother that does not buy her children anything, they are spoiled rotten and to be honest, I get tired of "stuff" taking over our house.

Here is Addy's list (which has not changed in months):
  • Rapunzel movie
  • Rapunzel doll
  • Flynn doll
  • Rapunzel  costume
  • Toothless costume
  • Rapunzel cake
  • 2 Rapunzel balloons
  • 1 Bambi balloon
Do you see a trend here?  Grandma has already taken care of the dolls and one costume.  I'm totally picking up the movie tomorrow and it just happens that her birthday is soon after it's release date, so it can be her gift and I had a shirt made on Etsy to take care of "Toothless" and I guess I'll have to make her a cake and possibly a balloon or two.  Like I said, she has been awfully cute (even if she has had quite a few sassy days).

Cute baby Saturday (without the pics)

Addy has been being all kinds of cuteness lately and I think she is trying to butter me up for her upcoming fourth birthday, and it may just be working.

The scene:  Addy and I had gone out to run a few errands and were heading home.
Addy:  "I miss my babies."
Mommy:  "Which babies?  Your two baby dolls?"
Addy:  "No, mommy.  I missed Kinsley and Eligh they are my babies."

The scene:  Giving the twins a bath and I was stripping Kinsley's bed.  Addy was sitting on the floor next to the bath.
Addy:  Hi, babies.  Make sure not to splash, ok? We don't want to get anything wet.
Twins in unison:  OK!!!!!
Addy:  You guys want more toys? I'll get them for you.

Kinsley ran out of the bathroom naked from the waist down.
Kinsley:  I did it, I did it!
Mommy:  You did?  Let me go check.
Addy runs into the bathroom with me and checks out the potty.
Mommy, Kinsley, and Addy:  YAY!!!!!  You did it!!!
Addy:  I'm so proud of you, Kinsley.

Hmmm...I may just have to get her a couple things for her birthday.

Friday Night Leftovers

  • I have a love/hate relationship with naps.  I do know that if all three nap in separate locations 2 out of 3 will definitely nap.  Lately, it has been Eligh who I'm fighting to nap.  One day he'll poop three times in a matter of an hour or so (all while supposed to be napping) another day he'll be out for 2 hours.
  • My mom arrived Tuesday afternoon and is leaving Sunday.
  • The kids are loving their grandma time and one particular soon to be 4 year old is getting even more extra attention.
  • This week I had to return my week old computer because the screen broke, but it was an even exchange.  Phew.
  • I finished my first class on Monday and received a 99%.  Want to know why I lost one measly point?  A group project paper.  I despise group projects, because I can't let go of control and hate waiting on people.
  • Yesterday the kids' new wood table and chair set arrived as well as our treadmill.
  • I can't wait to get into a routine with running again.  It's been way too long.
  • I got my Xray results back from my foot - nothing shows up.  What the hell is wrong with my foot?  It hurts more times than not when I simply walk, it's only the top of the foot, and feels like it is bruised.  Oh, and it has been going on for several months.
  • Addy had her first eye appointment this week and she did pretty awesome with holding her head straight, getting the puff in the eye, and all.
  • And Addy is now registered for t-ball.  Our first meeting is on her birthday, and during normal dinner time.
  • Tomorrow I'm gearing up for some major outlet shopping with my mom and I'm sure I will end the evening beyond exhausted.   She is a shopping freak.
  • Please stop by and continue to give love, hugs, and prayers for Jen and her family.
As always, stop by our fantabulous host, Danifred, and leave some love.

Introduction of the tattler

We have entered the age of tattle taling (sp?), narcing (sp?), what ever you want to call it, with Addy.  For example an excerpt from tonight.

I left with my mom to run to the store for an hour.

I got situated on the couch, and Addyson sat down next to me and her jabber mouth started.
Addy: Mommy, daddy yelled at us.
Mommy:  Why did daddy tell at you?  Did you do something bad?
Addy:  We were playing with our puzzles and Eligh wanted to play with the motorcycle puzzle, but daddy said (now comes her daddy voice) No, Eligh you can't play with that puzzle it's too hard downstairs, you have to go upstairs.  But, Eligh said NOOOO I don't want to.  So then daddy made us clean up and then he was all better.
Mommy:  Hmm...I'm glad daddy got better.
Addy:  So, then I took a bite out of my hamburger, climbed on my chair, and then Eligh and Kinsley (while walking from the couch to the ottoman to the couch again) started doing this.  That's bad.
Mommy:  If it is bad, then why are you doing it right now?
Addy:  I was just showing you (of course it was accompanied with a smart ass grin).

I better be extra careful with what I say and do or she is going to tattle on me.

Run, run, run

We had a super fast weekend and spent a total of 12+ hours on the road driving.  Got in early evening yesterday to unload a moving truck full of "stuff" that got mostly piled up in the garage.  Exhaustion as soon as my head hit the pillow.

Today I had to wake up to an alarm, because (gasp) my children are sleeping past 7!  I got everyone up and to our destination by 8 this morning.  Then we spent all day (except 3 hours - lunch and naps) outside.  I arranged all the "stuff" in the garage, put together the roller coaster, and enjoyed the beautiful weather with my monkeys.  Today reminds me why I am happy with my decision to stay home with the kiddos.

Since I spent the day outside I got absolutely nothing done today and will now have to spend the morning and early afternoon prepping for my mom to get here.  Crap, crap, crap.

Lucky, lucky 7

7 years married as of last Saturday.  Three we have been separated by nearly 7000 miles, and four we have been together.  Life has surely changed, and so have we.

Questions and Answers:
This is to both of you: what is your favorite thing about the other?
Carrie:   His ability to have a positive attitude about any and everything.  He is what calms my quick to stress and feel overwhelmed attitude.
Cody:  How amazing of a mother she is.

What are your favorite seven memories through the years (and you can count each kid separately or as "one" if you'd like- I imagine that is probably up there ;)
Birth of Addyson
Birth of the twins
Each of the three times he arrived safely home from a deployment
Wedding
Disney World
Myrtle Beach Trip
Most recent trip to Savannah, GA

What do you do to stay connected to one another, especially since you've spent so much time apart?
We make sure to spend our evenings together some way some how.  After the monkeys are in bed, we like to relax together, and nearly 99% of the time go to bed together.  As far as when we are apart, communication is key, and I am more of a talker than he is so it is something we work on when the situation arises.

Also, is life today what you thought it would be, back then?
Carrie - Yes, and No.  I had hoped we would be happily married with a family, and that has indeed happened.  Did I plan on quitting my job to stay home with my children? No.  Did I plan on Cody possibly going career with the Army?  Hell no.  But, life happens and you either learn to face those challenges head on or crumple underneath.

Cody:  Yep.  I am married to my beautiful wife, I have a job, a roof over our heads, and three amazing children.

I'm sorry it has taken so long to get this posted, I had full intentions of doing this on Saturday, but we were visiting with family, went out to dinner, and crashed when we got home.

Friday Night Leftovers - quick roadtrip

  • This week we made some big purchases (laptop - mini one's screen broke, outdoor table and chairs, and a treadmill)
  • Finally went to my yearly (it's been two years).  I left with a migraine script, an Xray of my foot, and an order for blood work
  • My back is still a work in progress, but I believe after this last adjustment it is getting better.  But, if it does not, he will be ordering me an MRI.
  • All of these reasons are why I rarely go to the doctor for myself, there seems to always be something wrong.
  • The treadmill we ordered is back ordered for two weeks and they offered us an upgraded model for FREE!!  Hell to the yeah!
  • I can't tell you all enough how AMAZING it is to have Cody not only home, but available.  We eat dinner together as a family every night (except for my two Zumba nights).  He does not come home stressed at all.  I just wish he could stay at this type of job indefinitely.
  • Addy has a detailed list of what she wants for her birthday (which is only a few weeks away).  I will share with you all soon.
  • Kids are still shooting boogers out of their nose, but are happy as can be.  Never ending cold.
  • We will be leaving sometime this afternoon for Illinois, which means we won't get in until it is super late (like 9 pm).  Yuck!
  • My parents are going to let Cody and I go out tomorrow for our anniversary near the kids' bedtime.  We truly appreciate and enjoy these dinners that do not involve shouting, bargaining, "ewwws," and potty talk.
As always check out our glamorous host, Danifred

Questions for two

This warmer weather and homework has taken up the majority of my time.  We are leaving tomorrow afternoon after Cody gets off of work to make another trip up to Illinois, but this time we will be heading back with the last of our belongings.  It will be a super quick trip.  Leave tomorrow, and come back to Missouri Sunday.  Sometime next week my mom is coming to visit, which the kids will be thrilled about.

The point of this post is I would like each of you to ask me, Cody or the both of us a question.  Saturday we will be celebrating the lucky 7 (or I just adore this number) anniversary. This will be our 4th anniversary that we have not been separated by nearly 7,000 miles, and simply being together is enough for us.

Fire away.

Slide, swings, and smiles

Saturday it was beaaautiful.  We spent over five hours at three different playgrounds.  Here are some of the many pictures I captured from the day:

No chest

Newsflash:  The trio are sick (another cold/or the same one).  I like to lather them up in Vicks a couple times a day, especially during naps and bed time.  Cody despises the smell and wishes I would wait until he has give them kisses and hugs before applying it, but I don't nor will I wait.

Today I was in the kitchen prepping lunch, and Eligh and Addyson came racing in on their ride on toys.

Mommy:  Sniff, sniff.   I smell Vicks.  Babe, did you give the kids some Vicks?
Daddy:  NO!  You know I hate that stuff.
Mommy:  Do you smell it?
Daddy:  Yes.  Addyson, you are the only one tall enough to reach it.  Did you get the Vicks from Eligh's dresser?
Addy:   I got the chest.  I didn't have any chest yet, so I rubbed it on me and Eligh.  Because he didn't have any chest either.
Daddy:  Addy, you have to let mommy or daddy put it on, ok?
Addy:  Sad look.  But, I don't have a chest.  I need it.

I busted up laughing with tears.  My almost 4 year old does not need a chest and if she has her mommy's genes, she will never get one.  This conversation could be something we visit in the next 12 years when she realizes she still doesn't have a chest.

Think before you speak

Went out a couple of times lately solo with the trio and the continual comments of, "Wow, you have your hands full" were more than irritating and I really wanted to smack someone for their stupid comments, so maybe the following brief conversations would not have been as bad

Was at the chiropractor (for the first time ever) yesterday finally getting this back pain assessed.  As I was waiting, a couple people commented on the kids.

Older lady:  "Are they twins?"
Me:  "Yes, m'am."
Older lady:  "I couldn't imagine having two the same age."
Her friend:  "I saw a lady with three that were so close in age, I just don't understand why someone would want to do that."
Older lady:  "How old are they?"
Me:  "My oldest is three and the twins are two."
Older lady and friend:  "Wow."

Man:  "Are they twins?"
Me:  "Yes, they are."
Man:  "I wasn't sure, because they don't look alike."
Me:  No response.  You're right they are not identical; one is a boy and one is a girl.  And they do not have the same colored eyes, hair, and facial features what so ever.

Nope, I do not see any similarities what so ever.  None.
People should really think before they speak.

Friday Night Leftovers

  • Eligh used the potty this week.  I just assumed he was so not ready, but maybe he is going to be before Kinsley.  Who the heck knows.
  • School takes a lot more time than I thought, and I don't know how people work full time and go back to school, you simply rock!
  • I'm debating getting a treadmill.  I like running and going to the gym is a hassle.
  • I do Zumba it up a couple nights a week.  I tried out a new instructor, and like it a lot more than the other instructor I was attending.  And in this particular instructor's classes there are a handful of guys, and that makes it so much more enjoyable to go and watch them attempt to shake their hips.  HYSTERICAL!
  • I'm reading a really good book - will share when I'm finished.
  • Eligh and the cold just won't end.  It has been weeks of booger wiping.
  • Addy had another shoe growth spurt - poor child.
  • I might finally go to the doctor today about my back.
  • Daddy has been playing memory with all three of the monkeys and they are doing GREAT!  I didn't think the twins could handle it, but I guess I was wrong (just don't tell Cody I'm admitting this).
  • Addy is still having issues with her daddy going to work.  Around 4 this morning she woke up with a nightmare, so she finished sleeping in our bed.  When Cody left for work, she was in full on sobbing hysterics about it.  It will get better, right?
  • Went back to the eye doctor to get new contacts to waste me damn time.  1. The doctor wasn't in for the week and it was supposed to be cancelled. 2. The other eye doctor thought she could help and after waiting for her she could not.
  • My appointment isn't for another two weeks, and I am "supposed" to wear my glasses until then.  I am not a full time glasses wearer.
As always check out our host, Danifred, to see what others are bringing to the table.

I'm slow

Another milestone* coming our way.  I'm attempting to teach the twins to use "big" cups.  Kinsley is doing great, Eligh is learning (spilling water on his shirt and the floor).
I keep reminding them to drink slow.

Their response:
"Mommy, I'm slooow!  Look!  I'm slooowww!  YAY!"

*(I wish I could say it was potty training that we were successfully managing, but I've given up on that until summer or longer).

Sunday Senses

Sight:  Laundry basket full of folded clothes that I need to take downstairs and put away.  I don't mind doing laundry and even folding it, but putting it away, I hate it!

Smell:  Burt's Bees on my lips (sexy, huh?)

Feel:  Annoying pain in my back/shoulder/neck/arm area (yep, that's a whole lot of area).

Taste:  This Greek dressing from the wrap I tried from a local restaurant.  Tasted good at the time, but man it lingers.

Hear:  The girls whispering - couldn't they have slept 30 more minutes?  Hmm...I wonder how long I can ignore them?

Want to join in?  Stop by Rebecca for all the rules.

Coconuts

Did you know that the word "coconuts" is so much funnier than potty talk

And, did you know that it can be used in any sentence and make everyone laugh like hyenas at the same time?

Try it out, you may find it just as humorous as my crazy three.

Friday Night Leftovers

  • I'm off to what I believe is a good start to school.  I know things are going to get tougher as we go along and I'm already trying to come up with ideas for my action research paper (which is going to be tough since I'm not in the schools right now to actually implement something).
  • I had an eye exam this week and my prescription actually lessened.  I have to go back next week to have contacts fitted, but I do have the new lenses in my glasses and they are taking some adjustment.
  • I have this random back pain that feels like a pinched nerve under my shoulder blade and sometimes causes tingling in my arm or hand.
  • Been having way too many headaches/migraines lately and finally scheduled an appointment.
  • Any time we leave the house the monkeys believe we are going to the playground.  Warmer weather just needs to stay put.
  • The downstairs is put back together and functional.
  • The monkeys have gone bananas the past few days in the toy room, and I'm trying not to freak and realize they just missed all their toys and have to see all of them.
  • I'm attempting to make some more changes to my blog.  Might need more help from all you successful blog template peeps.
  • Eligh keeps asking, "Can I have big muscles?"  Simply because his daddy told him that if he eats all his food he will get big muscles.
As always, check out our host, Danifred

Potty mouth

We have entered a new stage in the House of Chaos and I do not like it one tiny little bit. We have entered the game of "The Potty is Fun to Play in as well as all Words Associated with It" (is that a long enough title?).

Here is a list of words that currently spew from my three:

Diaper
Poopie
Poop
Pee-Pee
Booty
Potty

After each word, or if any of the words are said by anyone in the house the three of them all chime in with, "Ewwwwwww" and then bust up laughing. What in the world is so fascinating about the use of such potty words? It is making me insane and threats of eating soap have entered our vocabulary (don't worry we would never do such a thing).

I think the twins are trying to tell me that I need to stop putting off potty training and just get rid of the diapers. (Seriously, I'm just not motivated or ready to do it).

Some growth stats

Since I don't have children who are considered babies anymore, the frequency of doctor's visits depend solely on them being sick or in pain. I much rather preferred visiting the doctor on happier terms and so do the bambinos. When we loaded everyone up and told them where we wwre ging we instantly heard, "I don't want Shots!!!" or, "I don't want to go to the Doctor!!!"

This makes for a fun 30 minute drive, and caused the hubby to make a promise of milkshakes for good behavior without consulting mommy first.

A load of new patient paperwork multiplied by three, a lot of questions, and shouting over three spastic monkeys wore me OUT!!!!

Some stats on the three since it has been a while:

Addy: 40.5 inches tall - 75th percentile, 33 pounds - 25th percentile. Title - String bean and definitely jealous of her lengthy structure.

Kinsley: 37 inches tall - 85th percentile, 32 pounds - 85th percentile. Title -The Beast

Eligh: 32 inches tall - 75th percentile, 27 pounds - 15th percentile. Title - The Runt

As exhausting all of that was, we all left happy with the new doctor. Even grumpy-faced old man, Eligh, was laughing and even gave the doctor a high five. We were described as the room full of energy with an adorable family (aka - don't let their cuteness fool you, and bring your earplugs if you have to enter the room).

Most importantly, daddy kept his promise and he learned a valuable lesson - do not give Kinsley a milkshake in a vehicle. Any guesses on what we saw when we parked the van?
